About The Provider
Hee Young (John) Lee, MD, earned his medical degree from Yonsei University College of Medicine in Seoul, South Korea. He completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Severance Hospital, Yonsei University Health System, before pursuing advanced fellowship training in foot and ankle orthopaedic surgery at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa, and MedStar Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.
Dr. Lee specializes in reconstructive foot and ankle surgery. He treats a wide range of conditions, including ankle and foot osteoarthritis, adult flatfoot and cavus (high-arched) deformities, tendon disorders, sports injuries, ankle fractures and trauma, bunions (hallux valgus), and hammertoe and other lesser toe deformities.
His expertise includes both nonsurgical and surgical treatment options, such as activity modification, bracing, physical therapy, medications, injections, ankle and foot arthrodesis (fusion), total ankle replacement, flatfoot and cavus foot reconstruction, tendon repair and reconstruction, ankle arthroscopy, ligament repair and reconstruction, Achilles tendon surgery, fracture care, bunion correction, and correction of toe deformities.
Dr. Lee believes exceptional patient care begins with listening carefully to each patient's symptoms, concerns, and goals. He is committed to helping patients understand their diagnosis and treatment options, including both nonsurgical and surgical approaches. By working collaboratively with patients, he helps them make informed decisions and develop treatment plans that align with their individual needs and goals.
He chose foot and ankle surgery because of the specialty's broad range of conditions, from sports injuries and fractures to arthritis and complex deformities. He is particularly interested in the biomechanics of the foot and ankle and values the opportunity to help patients regain function, reduce pain, and return to the activities they enjoy.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Lee serves as an Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the American Orthopedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS).
Having completed fellowship training in the Midwest, including Iowa, Dr. Lee developed a deep appreciation for the region's welcoming communities and collaborative culture. After practicing on the East Coast, he was pleased to return to the Midwest and looks forward to serving patients and being an active member of the Dayton community.
Outside of work, Dr. Lee enjoys golfing, which he appreciates for the strategic thinking, patience, and discipline it requires. He has also recently taken up tennis as a way to stay active and enjoy the challenge of learning a new sport.
