About Jiri D. Sonek
About The Provider
Dr. Sonek earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Chicago and completed both his residency and his Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellowship at the Ohio State University. He serves on the clinical faculty at both Ohio State and Wright State University.
Dr. Sonek's special interest and calling is diagnostic ultrasound. He earned his RDMS (Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer) in Obstetric, Gynecologic and Neuro Sonography. A part of his fellowship was spent at the Harris Birthright Centre for Fetal Medicine in London, UK, where he received advanced training in prenatal diagnosis and treatment under the tutelage of Professor Kypros Nicolaides. The relationship he developed there helped him prove a finding involving Down syndrome for which he gained international recognition. He linked absence of severely reduced development of the fetal nasal bones with Down syndrome between 11 to 13 weeks gestation. Dr. Sonek once again gained worldwide recognition for developing a new first trimester marker called the Fronto-Maxillary Facial Angle. This technique measures the angle of the fetus' face in the first trimester and provides a risk assessment as to whether the fetus may have Down syndrome.
Dr. Sonek is a member of a number of national and international societies in OB/GYN, Maternal-Fetal Medicine and ultrasonography. He is also President and Chairman of the Board for the Fetal Medicine Foundation USA. A non-profit charitable organization which began in July 2006 it is the global leader in First Trimester training and accreditation. The foundation works very closely with the original Fetal Medicine Foundation in London founded by Kypros Nicolaides. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine in the UK and an Honorary Member of the OB/GYN Society in the Czech Republic. A national prize for outstanding work in diagnostic ultrasound and genetics is awarded in Dr. Sonek's name on an annual basis in the Czech Republic.
Along with maintaining a very busy private practice in Maternal-Fetal Medicine, he is also involved in resident education and national and international courses in ultrasonography.
Dr. Sonek is married, has two daughters, and resides in Beavercreek, OH.

We arrived 5 minutes late for our Appt due to traffic. We called and told the receptionist. The receptionist had a facial expression when we arrived and left that appeared a little annoyed and she was not very welcoming. The ultrasound provided was very nice and welcoming.

Maybe, stagger lunch breaks so there is always at least one receptionist in the office. We got there early to fill out paperwork but everyone was on lunch.

I came in for a 20 week anatomy scan, everyone was so nice. The technician explained everything on the scan so clearly and tried to get the best angle for pictures for us to take home. It was a great and easy experience.

Sonogram tech wasn't very friendly and appeared annoyed, that my baby was so active during our sonogram.

I was told during my appointment that they got everything they needed than was told that I have to pay to have another scan done bc they didn't get clear enough images. I don't think it's right to be told they got everything and than be told I have to have it done again when 1 of the images was very clear

For our anatomy scan, the technician we had wasn't very accommodating. My husband and I felt like our appointment was an inconvenience for her. We have never felt that way with any of our appointments here. We had to ask the technician a lot of questions during the ultrasound and we did not get any detailed answers (more or less yes or no, or one-worded responses). At the end, we felt pushed out of the room. We were hoping to see more of our baby again. We did not get an eta when our results would be ready to see if our baby is healthy or not. I had to call the office for the results. Our past ultrasounds the technicians explained everything what we were seeing and asked if we would like to see anything again - which is super comforting. This is my husband and I first child - so we are very excited and have a lot of questions. We felt like that this technician took all the fun out of the anatomy scan experience.
