Kanan Sharma, MD is a board‑certified gastroenterologist with extensive experience in diagnosing and managing a broad range of digestive disorders. She provides thoughtful, patient‑centered care that combines clinical expertise with empathy and clear communication, helping patients feel informed, heard, and confident in their treatment plans.
Dr. Sharma earned her medical degree from Burdwan Medical College in West Bengal, India. She completed her internal medicine residency at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine in Dayton, OH, where she served as Chief Resident, and went on to complete a gastroenterology fellowship. She is board‑certified in gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM).
Her clinical interests include the diagnosis and management of inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and colorectal disorders. Dr. Sharma treats a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions such as acid reflux, gastritis, stomach ulcers, celiac disease, constipation and chronic diarrhea, liver diseases, gallbladder and bile duct disorders, pancreatic conditions, gastrointestinal infections, and gastrointestinal bleeding. She also focuses on colon polyp management and colorectal cancer screening.
Dr. Sharma chose gastroenterology for its unique blend of intellectual challenge, procedural skill, and continuity of care. She finds it especially rewarding to help patients understand their symptoms, reach accurate diagnoses, and develop personalized treatment plans that improve quality of life.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Sharma has participated in medical research and has authored peer‑reviewed publications and abstracts in gastroenterology. She is a member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Gastroenterology, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, American Gastroenterological Association, and the American Medical Association.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Sharma enjoys spending quality time with her family, traveling to explore new cultures, staying active through fitness and wellness activities, and cooking.
