Matthew Abourezk, MD, is a graduate of The Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus, OH. He completed his residency at in General Surgery at Riverside Methodist Hospital at Ohio Health in Columbus, OH. He went on to complete a fellowship in Surgical Critical Care at University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, FL. Dr. Abourezk is board certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care by the American Board of Surgery.
Dr. Abourezk specializes in Trauma Surgery, Acute Care Surgery, General Surgery, Robotic Surgery, and Endoscopy. He provides comprehensive surgical management for a wide range of acute and chronic conditions, including:
- Hernia Repair: Treatment for all types of hernias, including inguinal, femoral, umbilical, ventral, and flank hernias.
- Gastrointestinal Health: Management of gallbladder disease, appendiceal disease, and small and large bowel diseases (such as bowel obstructions, masses, strictures, diverticulitis, and ostomy care/reversal).
- Wounds and Skin: Care for chronic wounds and the excision of benign and malignant skin lesions.
- Specialized Care: Treatment for pancreatitis, anorectal disease (fistulas, fissures, perirectal abscesses), rib fractures, and enteral access needs (gastrostomy and small bowel feeding tubes).
Dr. Abourezk performs advanced surgical procedures utilizing open, laparoscopic, and robotic techniques for various conditions:
- Minimally Invasive Surgery: Open, laparoscopic, and robotic repairs for all hernia types, as well as gallbladder and appendix removals, and intestinal resections (large and small bowel).
- Advanced Procedures: Open, laparoscopic, and robotic ostomy reversals and feeding tube placements (gastric and small bowel).
- Specialty Procedures: Surgical stabilization of rib fractures, wide excision and closure of soft tissue lesions, anorectal procedures (fissurectomy, fistulotomy, and abscess drainage), and chronic wound management and debridement.
Dr. Abourezk is committed to a patient-centered approach to surgical care. He firmly believes that surgery is a major decision that requires close collaboration between the surgeon and the patient to determine the best possible solution. His goal is to address all patient concerns that are limiting their ability to enjoy life, and to provide a care plan that improves their quality of life in the most efficient, safe, and successful manner possible.
Dr. Abourezk is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine. Read his publications. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Eastern Associated for the Surgery of Trauma, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
